Begin Eye Exams By The Age Of 3
The American Academy of Ophthalmology estimates that 80% of all learning* during a child's first 12 years comes through the eyes. We recommend that all children have a comprehensive eye exam before starting any level of school, and ideally by the age of 3. While school screenings are useful tools in detecting certain types of refractive error, they may miss the need for vision correction (glasses) in about half of all cases and should not be used as a replacement for a comprehensive exam with an optometrist or ophthalmologist.
